When to Seek Professional Help

Indicators it is worth seeking advice from the services here are:

  • 1You feel uncomfortable with the situation you are trying to help for your friend, family member or colleague
  • 2You are worried by what you are being told
  • 3The person you are trying to assist is expressing medium to strong ideas of not wishing to be alive
  • 4The person you are trying to assist is expressing definite intentions of self-harm
Important:

Promises to be safe ideally need to be assessed by a professional. Promises of confidentiality have to be put aside when you realise a life is in danger. Although perhaps upset initially, the vast majority of survivors are glad eventually that someone intervened.

A useful question/message:

"If our positions were reversed, and I had your problems, what would you advise me to do?"
